Project Description

Grantee Profile: Opera Colorado

Since 1981, Opera Colorado has been presenting the highest-quality live performances of grand operas in their original languages. The company balances its repertoire between classic favorites and masterpieces that have not been previously performed in Denver.

Opera Colorado’s mission is to entertain audiences by creating the passion of grand opera, and promoting opera through education and cultural activities.

They perform a season of main stage operas annually at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. In addition, their community programs reach more than 40,000 students and adults throughout the region each year. The Young Artists program (young professional artists interning with Opera Colorado) is the backbone of outreach and education, allowing students of all ages to experience opera first-hand and through intensive workshops.

Bonfils-Stanton Foundation supports Opera Colorado as an arts and culture mainstay that presents innovative productions and cross-discipline partnerships which build awareness and audiences. The Foundation is pleased to help fund Opera Colorado’s 2015/2016 season. The collaborative activities around The Scarlet Letter are particularly exciting and will help shape the organization’s plans for community programming in the future.

The General Director for Opera Colorado is a 2009 Livingston Fellow! Learn more about Opera Colorado and purchase tickets to attend a performance on their website at operacolorado.org.
