Grantee Profile: Central City Opera House
Established in 1931, Central City Opera (CCO) presents classic, new and rarely performed operas in the intimacy of the historic Central City Opera House. In addition to their productions, CCO trains and provides performance experience for tomorrow’s opera artists; cultivates appreciation for live music, theater and opera through educational outreach; and preserves and manages 32 historic properties owned by the Association.
CCO’s annual Summer Festival has earned international acclaim for presenting new operas as well as neglected or unusual works, and staging traditional operas in innovative ways. In total, productions have included 19 regional premieres, two North American premieres and six world premieres.
Central City Opera sponsors the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Artists Training Program which provides student vocalists with instruction, career development and opportunities to perform in Festival productions.
Bonfils-Stanton Foundation supports CCO’s general operating fund, as well as the capital restoration and preservation project on the historic Teller House. This iconic building was built in 1871 and is adjacent to the Opera House. Central City Opera House Association is one of Bonfils-Stanton Foundation’s longest-standing grantee partners.
