Grantee Profile: Buntport Theatre Company
Since it was founded in 2000, Buntport Theatre Company has created 43 original full-length world premiere plays, 100 sitcom episodes, 133 children’s show performances and 82-and-counting monthly mini-plays.
Buntport often creates works that are inspired by or are adaptations of classic literature. Currently, Buntport hosts a resident theatre company, “Screw Tooth,” which is home to the award-winning monthly storytelling show, “The Narrators.” Buntport thrives on collaboration, and has partnered with a wide range of arts organizations including the Denver Art Museum, Stories on Stage, Clyfford Still Museum, MCA Denver, Warm Cookies of the Revolution and Augustana Arts.
Buntport has developed an innovative business model that results in living wages for the artists and gives Company members full control of artistic decisions. Company members collaborate on every aspect of the artistic process and production – as well as handle all administrative tasks.
Bonfils-Stanton Foundation helps support Buntport Theatre Company’s focus on artistic innovation and excellence while maintaining a high level of creative output and low ticket prices. The Foundation provides general operating support so the Company can continue offering main stage shows; monthly one-off performances called “Off-Nights” that highlight Company members and other community members in fun, nontraditional ways; and on-site and school-based programming and touring shows that serve more than 8,000 K-12 students annually.
