Grantee Profile: Augustana Arts
Augustana Arts’ mission is to gather community, support the arts and delight the spirit. That perfectly sums up this innovative, community-focused organization. The organization strives to increase reach and access through relevant programming, artistic excellence and collaboration. Two resident performing arts groups along with nationally and internationally acclaimed guest artists are the focus of Augustana Arts programming – the Stratus Chamber Orchestra (formerly Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra) and the Colorado Women’s Chorale. Augustana Arts is constantly evolving to reflect changing interests among audiences and to stay relevant in the 21st century classical music experience. Repertoire is diverse and often includes works by living composers.
In addition, Augustana Arts offers an after-school music education program called City Strings –for at-risk youth and low-income neighborhoods. City Strings provides lessons in violin, viola and cello.
Bonfils-Stanton Foundation supports the 2015-2016 season of the Stratus Chamber Orchestra in recognition of the orchestra’s artistic excellence, innovative partnerships and community accessibility. The 2015-2016 season celebrates landmark anniversaries of three significant artists: the birth of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius who was influential in the development of the symphonic poem; the death of William Shakespeare; and the premier of one of composer Franz Schubert’s greatest works, The Unfinished Symphony.
